The Maryam Library Foundation has once again partnered with OSAAT (One School At A Time) to establish and support school libraries in India, this time in Maharashtra for the 2026–27 academic year. This collaboration marks an important step forward in improving literacy, education, and learning opportunities for underserved communities that often lack essential learning materials. Both organizations believe that libraries are more than just spaces filled with books; they serve as dynamic centers of knowledge, creativity, and personal growth that can positively impact lives for generations.
Through this collaboration, the organizations plan to establish libraries that give children, students, and families access to books, educational materials, and safe learning spaces. Many underserved communities face challenges like limited study areas and a lack of educational support. By creating welcoming and accessible libraries, the partnership aims to encourage a love for reading, support academic success, and inspire lifelong learning for people of all ages.
Our Mission: Expanding Access to Education and Literacy
Every child deserves access to books, resources, and spaces that spark curiosity and support their success. Libraries are not just shelves of books; they are a path to opportunity and imagination.
Creating Stronger Communities Through Learning
The library initiative is also expected to strengthen local communities throughout Maharashtra. Besides offering books and study materials, the libraries may host educational programs, reading sessions, workshops, and community activities designed to bring people together and promote learning. Organizers believe these spaces can become valuable community hubs where individuals can grow personally, academically, and socially in a positive setting.
Representatives from Maryam Library Foundation and OSAAT expressed excitement about the partnership and the long-term impact it could have on future generations. Volunteers, educators, donors, and community leaders are expected to play a significant role in the project's success. By collaborating, both organizations hope to create lasting opportunities for children and families while showcasing the power of teamwork in promoting literacy, education, and social development across Maharashtra.
The 2026 initiative will bring dedicated library rooms to six primary and secondary schools across Maharashtra’s Nashik and Sangli zones, directly benefiting approximately 1,852 students
This year, we are proud to complete libraries in the following schools:
ZP School Rawalgaon (Tal Dindori, Dist Nashik)
Student Impact: 266 students (Classes 1–8, Marathi medium).
Background & Plan: Building upon the 3 classrooms, kitchen, and toilet blocks constructed by OSAAT in 2025, the partnership will establish a dedicated, separate library room to further support these students.
ZP Primary School Kochargaon (Block Dindori, Dist Nashik)
Student Impact: 733 students (Classes 1–7, Marathi medium).
Background & Plan: As a large school with 19 existing classrooms, the project will convert and utilize an available designated room into a fully equipped, functional school library.
ZP School Madkijaam (Tal Dindori, Dist Nashik)
Student Impact: 123 students (Classes 1–7, Marathi medium).
Background & Plan: A library space will be set up to enhance reading and literacy tools for this close-knit primary student community.
Shri Mahadev Vidyalaya (SMV) Ravalgundwadi (Tal Jath, Dist Sangli)
Student Impact: 269 students (Classes 8–10, Kannada & Marathi medium).
Background & Plan: OSAAT previously built and repaired classrooms here in 2012 and added toilet blocks during the 2020 lockdown. The upcoming phase will transform an available separate room into a vibrant new library.
Shri Hanuman New English School, Walsang (Tal Jath, Dist Sangli)
Student Impact: 330 students (Classes 5–10, Marathi medium).
Background & Plan: Recognized as a progressive school in the Jath area, it previously received 3 classrooms and a toilet block from OSAAT in 2021. A separate library room will be officially set up to foster their continuing academic development
New Kannad Madhyamik Vidyalay, Morabagi (Tal Jath, Dist Sangli)
Student Impact: 131 students (Classes 8–10, Kannada medium).
Background & Plan: Following the construction of 2 new classrooms and a kitchen block by OSAAT in 2020, the school’s separate available room will be fully furnished into a library resource center.
Beyond providing books and study materials, these libraries are designed to serve as valuable community hubs. The spaces are expected to eventually host local educational programs, workshops, community activities, and structured reading sessions that bring families together.
Representatives from both the Maryam Library Foundation and OSAAT have expressed incredible excitement for the long-term, multi-generational impact of this partnership. Aided by the essential support of volunteers, educators, community leaders, and generous donors, this project highlights the profound impact of teamwork in accelerating literacy, expanding rural education, and empowering rural youth across Maharashtra.
