About Us

With a goal to promote literacy and lifelong learning in underserved communities, we believe that access to books and educational resources is a fundamental right and are dedicated to providing a welcoming and inclusive space for all.

The Maryam Library Foundation was founded by Maryam, a passionate advocate for education and equal opportunity. Through the establishment of community libraries, book drives, and educational programs, we aim to bring the joy of reading and learning to those who may not have had access before.

(Founder and President of Maryam Library Foundation)

Maryam Library Foundation was conceptualized in 2021 by Maryam (a rising Sophomore then) as she was working on education projects with Africa and India non-profit organizations.

Maryam has always been passionate about doing something about social issues like global literacy, health disparity and gender inequality. Working with organizations (Literacy International, Help Aid Africa) for the last couple of years, she has had the opportunity to find ways to help and support schools in underserved communities. These initiatives provided her a platform to interact and work closely with people across the continents and learn from them.  As the Vice President of her school’s Japanese National Honor Society (JNHS) in 2022 and beyond, she has organized fundraisers and events to teach others about Japanese culture and lead her society members. JNHS greatly expanded during this time from the small number of traditional events to many others that can include non-Japanese speaking people and work with other clubs and organizations for outside opportunities, volunteering, tutoring, and different types of projects such as anime movie nights and manga contests.

With Help Aid Africa, Maryam has been working as the Youth Media Director and also led similar work to build awareness for the need of literacy in underprivileged communities and communicated with many people to accomplish these projects. She has also extended help to the Red Cross youth and organized many educational health and disaster awareness events.

She has also been tutoring struggling kids for the past few years in both her local community and abroad. She got experience with neurodivergent children or children with learning differences and believe we as a society can be more welcoming to them. Maryam has a lot of compassion for families with autistic children or loved ones with cancer.

Along with a strong propensity for helping others, she is also passionate about STEM. Working at Stanford Blood Center every week as a volunteer has also given her unique

perspective for giving (the giving of life that strangers give for others through donation of blood). Maryam is in the medical, psychology, and women in STEM clubs at school. Thus,  she plans on pursuing a career in the medical field, likely oncology.

Maryam loves art, particularly graphic design. Since young age she has been sketching and now taken advanced courses at school 2D art mediums. Additionally, she has incorporated her skills to aid our community by creating numerous flyers and infographics for the Silicon Valley Youth Red Cross events and designing presentations and collages for Literacy International, Help Aid Africa, her Africa Library Project, and Japanese National Honor Society.

She is also in performing arts and has been in school’s productions and choir. Maryam loves to play lacrosse and has been on the varsity team throughout high school.
