Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders: A New Library for GGHSS Thirukazhukundram
(Maryam Library Foundation's 57th Project)
The Maryam Library Foundation is excited to announce one of our latest projects in Tamil Nadu, where we strengthened the library at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Thirukazhukundram. We believe that education empowers communities, and libraries are essential spaces that provide students with the knowledge they need for a brighter future.
GGHSS Thirukazhukundram: A School of Scale and Opportunity:
GGHSS Thirukazhukundram is a dynamic
School, a home to 2003 students from classes 6 to 12, is guided by 62 remarkable teachers. Offering both Tamil and English medium, the school serves as a vital area
for learning and growth in the community. In 2024, OSAAT further improved the school’s infrastructure with the addition of six new classrooms, creating a stronger base for students' success.
Building on a Strong Library Foundation:
The school already had an established library with over 400 books, giving students access to a variety of materials. However, the students needed competitive exam preparation books to help them pursue higher education and career goals. Understanding the problem, we focused on providing them with these important materials within their dedicated library room.
Library Project: Focused on the Future
Our project for GGHSS Thirukazhukundram is designed to:
Support Higher Studies: Provide these students with a collection of competitive exam books, giving students the tools they need to succeed beyond school
Empower Girls’ Education: Strengthen opportunities for young women to pursue college, careers, and be successful in the future.
Encourage Independent Learning: Ensures the library is a quiet, resourceful space where students can prepare for exams with focus and determination.
Sustain Long-Term Growth: We built on an existing library and classroom to ensure that the materials remain relevant to students' ambitions.
Why GGHSS Thirukazhukundram?
This school is not only huge but has tremendous potential, with over 2000 students, many of whom are preparing for a transition to higher education. The library plays a central role in shaping their futures. By giving them competitive eczema materials, we are helping them close the gap between schooling and professional careers.
