A New Chapter for GHS Kayarambedu: The Maryam Library Foundation's Latest Project
The Maryam Library Foundation is proud to announce one of our newest projects in Tamil Nadu: the creation of a new library at Government Higher Secondary School (GHS), Kayarambedu. We believe that education opens doors to new opportunities, and our libraries are built to ensure that every student has a chance to explore, imagine, and grow.
GHS Kayarambedu: A School on the Rise
GHS Kayarambedu is home to 309 students from grades 8 to 12, who are guided by 13 passionate teachers. The School offers both Tamil and English medium instruction, which helps the existing and future generation of learners who are preparing for higher studies and future careers. With the Support of OSAAT, which constructed four classrooms in 2024, the school has a solid foundation for growth.
Building a Better Library
The School had a basic library with government-issued books, where students were allowed to borrow one book per week. While this basic library was a valuable resource, we saw an opportunity to transform this library into a vibrant library room, a space that goes beyond lending books and expands students’ knowledge and creativity.
GHS Kayarambedu Library: Our Vision Brought to Life
Our goal was to design a library that will:
Expand Access to Books: A rich and diverse collection of books in both Tamil and English, which cover different subjects, stories, and reference materials that are more advanced.
Inspire Independent Reading: New seating, organized shelves, and inviting displays to encourage students to read for joy and exams.
Support Academic Growth: More resources for competitive exams, higher education preparation, and learning tools.
Engage in Community: A comfortable space where students, teachers, and even parents can come together for many different activities.

By improving their library, we're giving them a tool to dream bigger, aim higher, and succeed.
